We are seeking a versatile and reliable writer to support the production of Common Ground with Jane Whitney and its upcoming expansion series, including a newly developing 12-part show focused on environmental issues. We're seeking a seasoned writer with a deep journalistic backgroundideally someone with experience writing for magazines, newspapers, wire services and/or documentary-style productionswho can craft sharp, compelling news-style content on complex topics for a broad but erudite audience. This is a remote position, but candidates must be able to attend weekly Zoom team meetings. Key Responsibilities: Write and edit quality news-style content in support of Common Ground episodes and expansion shows Create compelling, factually accurate show descriptions, which amount to mini magazine pieces, and conduct deep-dive research on assigned topics Draft bios of panelists that reflect their expertise and relevance to the discussion Draft television promos, lede-ins and show introductions Develop and write press releases and external communications Write press releases related to show launches, events, or organizational updates Assist with developing weekly and quarterly newsletters Write social media copy to support episode promotion and broader engagement Support grant-writing efforts with writing or editing as needed Be available for writing assignments on an ad hoc basis, sometimes on tight deadlines Required Skills and Experience: Strong writing, research, and editing skills across various formats (journalistic, promotional, grant-related) Experience writing for media, television, non-profit, or advocacy organizations is a plus Ability to translate complex topics into accessible, engaging content Demonstrated ability to write across formats: from long-form research to concise promotional copy Self-directed and deadline-driven Comfortable working in a collaborative, remote team environment Understanding of or interest in current affairs, civic engagement, and/or environmental issues
